Compass Health Art Show Reception May 13
EVERETT – April 16, 2004 – Hosted by Bank of America, Cascade Bank and Frontier Bank, Compass Health’s sixth annual “A Diversity of Talents” Art Show will be held this year in downtown Everett from May 10-28.
The public is invited to attend the show’s free reception from 5:30-8:00 p.m. on May 13th in the bank branches located at Hewitt & Colby Avenues. Proceeds from art sold will provide art therapy programs and materials to help Compass Health clients.
“When you’re struggling with difficult situations and emotions, it isn’t always easy to explain how you feel in words,” said Compass Health President and CEO Jess C. Jamieson, Ph.D. “Young children, in particular, find it difficult to explain how they feel. Art provides an additional avenue of expression, so Compass Health raises funds each year to help those with mental illness and emotional crises find their voice through ink, paint and color.”
More than 100 pieces of art will be for sale or auction during the Art Show Reception, including watercolor, pastel, oil and colored pencil paintings; photography and sculptures. The juried show includes work by Compass Health clients, staff and family members, including original art by nationally known colored pencil artist Dr. Shirley Stallings, and paintings by regionally acclaimed Chinese American artist Yu-Ming Zhu and watercolors from San Juan Island’s Dr. Michelle Shober.
A drawing for Dr.
Shober’s 30 X 40-inch watercolor, “Cats” will take place at the May 13th
reception. It will be the highlight
of several prize drawings that evening, including sponsor Key Bank’s “Key
to the Vault” drawing. Those who purchase
hanging art or auction items on
May 13th will be automatically entered into a drawing for an exquisite sculpted centerpiece donated by Key Bank.
“Support from local artists, businesses and philanthropists has been outstanding,” said Jamieson. We have more than 40 live and silent auction items donated for our reception, including signed artwork by Bernie Webber, Sally Logan, Jack Gunter, Janet Hamilton, Marilee Moore, Jeannette Trudeau, Wendy Chauteau, Kristen Stout and Barbara McCarthy. We also have season and series tickets to the Everett Historic Theater and numerous other art items.”
If you’re planning a special birthday or anniversary, you can bid on a private ballroom dance lesson and party for 12 couples, compliments of the Betty Spooner School of the Arts, or on a private wine tasting party for 30 friends at the E.B. Foote Winery. Or bid on an out-of-town special trip, compliments of two tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies. These are just a few of the live auction items donated for the May 13 reception. Numerous local businesses and individuals have donated auction baskets and door prizes.
The public is invited to enjoy free food and beverages, provided by Azteca Restaurant, Papa John’s Pizza and Tully’s Coffee. Patrons will be serenaded by the big-band tunes of the Evergreen Middle School Jazz Band playing on the Cascade Bank veranda. Local Boy Scouts will escort visitors through the Colby and Hewitt intersection as they tour the art from bank to bank.
Philanthropists John and Idamae Schack joined Bank of America, Cascade, Frontier and Key Banks in sponsoring this Year’s “A Diversity of Talents” Art Show.
Said Jamieson, “As a non-profit, we can’t afford paints, easels and art classes on our own for our clients. We’re fortunate to live and work in an area surrounded by natural beauty and neighborhood generosity to help our clients bring out their own inner beauty and find their voice through art. Much of the art created for this year’s art show was made possible through a consumer art studio grant from Snohomish County Human Services.”
Compass Health has been serving the emotional needs of low-income children and families in northwest Washington since 1902, when it originated as an orphanage. Today, Compass Health is the region’s most comprehensive non-profit mental health organization serving Snohomish, Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties.
