Senior-To-Senior
The Finest in Peer Support

The Senior-to-Senior Peer Support Program is designed to provide emotional support to persons age 55 and over who are finding it difficult to cope due to life-situation changes, losses related to aging, or increased physical changes. Often the results of these life challenges can be depression, anxiety or other emotional problems, which prevent the senior from leading a more active and fulfilling life.

Because many older people are reluctant to seek counseling, Senior-to-Senior (STS) provides the welcome opportunity for a senior to meet with someone who has had similar problems and who can offer both understanding and a safe arena for support. STS is connecting seniors with seniors everyday! And all of the STS services are provided FREE of charge! We offer:

  • Assessments
  • Weekly in-home visitation
  • Trained and supervised volunteers
  • Empathic support
  • Goal setting
  • Community resources
  • Group support

Senior-to-Senior recognizes the importance of peer relationships. Our trained volunteers are all over 55 years of age. Through in-home visits of 3-9 months duration, the volunteer provides caring support and encourages individuals to achieve the successes and changes they desire in their life-situation. Together, the volunteer and senior set goals for more involvement in community activities. Peer support can increase an older adult's self-esteem and enhance the quality of life by reducing isolation, loneliness, and by increasing community participation.

"Sure I feel depressed most of the time ... that's because there's no meaning in my life anymore. All my friends are gone, and my family lives far away."
