How do I Become a Foster Parent?

The Seven Step Journey

  1. Contact Compass Health. Call 425-349-8480 or send us an email.
  2. Meet the foster home recruiter. Arrange a meeting for “coffee” near your home. Learn about our program and get a packet of information and forms.
  3. Return forms. Either by mail or in person, return the application, personal history and background check forms to Compass Health.
  4. Take thirty hours of training. Schedule and attend foster parent pre-service training with the foster home licensor.
  5. Three home visits. The licensor will come to your home to make sure everything is set-up for a foster child and to interview the family. When all of the information is collected, the completed application is sent off to the state for approval.
  6. Receive a foster home license.
  7. Be contacted for placement. Compass Health will call you when a child is in need of a home.
