Children’s Advocacy Program (CAP)

Our CAP program provides services to children and adolescents from birth to age 22 who have recently disclosed sexual abuse, or when there is a concern that they may have been abused.  Services are delivered by specialists trained in working with sexual abuse.

Services are provided throughout our Snohomish County clinics and includes individual, group therapy and/or family therapy as well as other support services.  In addition, our Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center in Everett is a multi-disciplinary facility that houses Children's Protective Services (CPS), Providence Hosptial Medical staff, Snohomish County Sheriff's Department, Prosecuting Attorney's Special Assault Unit, Advocates and Compass Health clinicians.  This facility provides one place specifically designed for children and families working through the trauma of sexual abuse.

Why is counseling needed?

Research shows that children and adolescents who receive immediate support following disclosure of abuse have fewer long term affects.  CAP clinicians are trained to help children, adolescents and their families figure out the most effective way for each family to support victims of assault.

When you call for an appointment tell the person that there is a disclosure of abuse or a concern your child may have been abused and that you would like your child seen in the CAP program.  You will be asked a few questions and then given an appointment at the clinic closest to your home.

What is the cost?

The cost of CAP services is covered, in part, by most health insurance plans.  If you have made a police report, we will help you apply for Crime Victims Compensation, which is a state program that pays for counseling for victims of crimes.  If you have no insurance and no ability to pay, we will work out a way for your child to be seen for at least ten sessions.
