Description
In this workshop we will address the trajectory of the grief process. We will explore ways to honor our clients' individual paths, as well as understand patterns described in Elizabeth Kubler Ross' seminal work and by others who followed. We'll address the delicate balance of respecting a client's individual path, yet helping those who remain stuck in a particular stage of grief. We'll look at pathological grief responses. We'll discuss similarities and differences in grieving for a variety of types of loss by death: on a continuum from long-term illness to sudden death through illness, suicide or homicide. Participants are encouraged to bring specific case examples and questions.
Goals of this Workshop
Participants will:
- review the stages involved in the grieving process
- learn to identify and treat pathological grief
- learn ways to return to work after suffering a personal loss
- learn to identify similarities and differences based on gradual versus sudden; death by illness or through suicide or homicide
- present both problematical and successful cases where they have treated grieving clients
