Description
This workshop provides an overview of the most critical aspect of adolescent chemical dependency and mental health disorders. The workshop will make use of real life cases and include practice sessions and role-plays to assist in developing usable skills in working with youth. The basics of relationship building and engagement of difficult to reach youth will also be explored.

Goals of this Workshop

  1. Learn about the complex interaction between child and adolescent development, the use of chemicals, and childhood trauma and emotional problems.
  2. Learn ways to increase engagement and relationship building with youth.
  3. Understand and address the counter-transference difficulties, which can lead to counselor burnout and hopelessness.

About The Presenter
Stephen Bogan, M.A., has worked in the fields of adolescent chemical dependency, mental health, and adolescent development for over 30 years. He is a licensed mental health counselor, National Certified Addiction Counselor, and a licensed Chemical Dependency Professional. Stephen specializes in training on adolescent development and chemical dependency, sexual orientation issues with youth, marijuana, co-occurring disorders, and father/son relationships. Currently, he is the Youth Treatment System Manager for the Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) in Washington State.

 

CEU Credit
This workshop is approved for 2 CEUs by the Washington Chapter, National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for Licensed Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists, and Mental Health Counselors.
