This course meets the Compass Health requirement for annual cultural competency training.
Humans communicate on many levels: spoken language, tone, body language, style and personality. The fact that we have complex cultural identities and a host of differing past experiences increases the probability of cross-cultural miscommunications. This workshop presents major cross-cultural communication theories, ways that cultural values, power, privilege and differences affect the way we communicate, tools for questioning assumptions, and ways to improve cross-cultural communications skills.

About the presenter:
Rosetta Eun Ryong Lee, experienced educator and diversity consultant whose passion and expertise ranges from science and ethics for middle school students, gender equity in STEM education, cross-cultural communication, gender bias, relational aggression, identity development, anti-bullying, brain and learning, and more. Driven toward empowering youth to make a better future for themselves and their communities, and at the same time working with adults to help create inclusive communities that will help empower youth of all races, ethnic origins, genders, abilities, sexual orientations, and other identities.

Open to all. Especially good for those meeting a Cultural Competency training requirement.
3 Continuing Education Credits from NASW WA (Includes 4 law & ethics credits): Licensed Social Workers, Marriage/Family Counselors, and Mental Health Counselors.
3 OSPI Clock Hours for educators.
As the class begins promptly, please arrive ten minutes early. Those who arrive late may be asked to leave without a refund or credit.
Those who stay to the end of class will receive a certificate of completion. Certificates will not be issued to those leaving early.
Electronic confirmation will be sent to you upon receipt of payment. After registration is received, an Outlook Invitation with details and the exact location will be sent. Accept the invitation and we will know you are coming. If you have paid and do not receive an Outlook Invitation in three to five days, please contact us. We do not allow drop-ins.

Cancellations must be made emailed and received no later than seven days prior to the event. No refund or credit will be made after that date without prior approval. If we cancel the training, registrants will be offered the next class or a full refund.
