Expanded Community of Services for Older Adults (ESCOA)
The ECSOA program is designed to support adults and older adults who require placement in adult family homes or skilled nursing facilities, but who have difficulty maintaining their placement due to significant mental health conditions. The goal of the program is reintegration of individuals with acute mental illness into less restrictive community settings, as an alternative to continued inpatient hospitalization. Compass Health clinicians and medical providers provide treatment services for the individual, as well as training and support for the facility staff.
The ECSOA program provides counseling and behavior modification together with psychiatric medication consultation and prescriptive services in Adult Family Homes and Nursing Facilities. Training is provided to facility staff to help them better understand and address the needs of persons living with mental illnesses.
The ECSOA Team includes geriatric mental health specialists, mental health clinicians, and psychiatric nurse practitioners. Acceptance into the program requires the approval by a committee of Home and Community Services.
This service is available in Snohomish, Skagit, & Whatcom counties.
To access this service, individuals must be referred by Home and Community Services through your DSHS Social Worker.
