Racial and Social Justice in Harm Reduction
Compass Health is partnering with HaRT3S to provide three training sessions about the importance of harm reduction treatment for substance use and radical and social justice in harm reduction.
Through Hart Training series, providers will learn a set of pragmatic and compassionate strategies that aim to reduce substance-related harm and improve quality of life for people who use substances and their communities – without requiring abstinence or use reduction. In this training series, attendees will learn how to apply harm reduction in the individual psychotherapeutic context using an efficacious and client driven approach in which therapists engage a harm-reduction mindset, heart-set and concrete therapeutic components.
Participants will:
1. Describe what bias is, how it develops, and how it is experienced.
2. Describe the impacts of historical trauma, persistent discrimination, and microaggressions.
3. Describe and practice specific personal interventions to address internal biases, as well as institutional interventions to implement structural and systemic change.
