A BIG thank you is due to the United Way of Whatcom County for their significant support of the Rainbow Recovery Center on W Holly Street in Bellingham.

The United Way of Whatcom has funded this program for over 10 years. And the results of our partnership are clear: recovery oriented plans help people lead healthy lifestyles and avoid risky behaviors.

Last year 1,289 referrals were made to other community agencies through member/peer counseling. That means Compass Health is to provide nearly two referrals for every one member at the Rainbow Center. These referral figures ensure that once a person leaves our doors, they are continuing their recovery plan.

Risky behaviors are oftentimes encouraged when individuals do not have any follow up or accountability past their service point with Compass Health. With the Recovery Oriented Model, we are ensuring that the members’ needs are met with a holistic approach.

In addition, the Rainbow Center served a staggering 5,439 breakfasts, 6,050 lunches, and provided over 2,500 personal hygiene products and services. When these services are combined, each Rainbow Center member is significantly reducing their chance of risky behaviors in the community, and is working on a healthy and productive lifestyle.

United Way of Whatcom County’s mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities to advance the common good through Education, Income, and Health. They provide leadership that galvanizes and connects a diverse set of individuals and institutions, and mobilize human and financial resources, to create long-term social change by advancing Education, Income, and Health for all.

United Way of Whatcom County’s goals for the community involve: helping children/youth achieve their potential through academic success, ensuring individuals/families achieve financial stability and economic independence, and building individuals who are healthy and avoid risky behaviors.
