A Long-Standing Tradition Continues – Local 32 Brightens Up the Holidays at Andy’s Place with a Turkey Dinner
The holidays are a time for joy, connection, and celebration. However, for some of our clients – especially those in intensive services – it can present unique challenges.
To brighten the season, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 32 has generously donated holiday meals to Compass Health for more than 15 years. What began as a small tradition in our Bailey Building, which was previously home to several intensive care programs, quickly became a beloved organizational custom.
Last year, this tradition continued at Andy’s Place, our permanent supportive housing facility. Andy’s Place supports community members who are facing severe behavioral health challenges and housing instability. With the ongoing generosity of Local 32, Andy’s Place residents and our dedicated team were able to enjoy delicious holiday feast with all the classic comforts: turkey, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, and more.
“By donating a turkey dinner to Andy’s Place, Local 32 is not only providing a meal, but also spreading warmth and hope,” said Jay Brown, program manager at Andy’s Place. “This tradition – and their support – over the years is a true testament to the power of community and kindness, helping to make the holidays more joyous for those who need it most.”
Local 32 has been providing turkey dinners to nonprofit organizations in Everett for more than 25 years. For organizations unable to host the meal, the union provides monetary donations to support their mission.
“Local 32’s turkey dinner donations go back quite a few years – it’s something that the generation before ours started doing, and we’re proud to continue it today,” said Mark Hoekendorf, president of Local 32. “It’s a way for us to show the community that we’re here, we support you – and recognize the work that so many organizations are doing to help those in need.”
