Harm Reduction Theory & Evidence Base: Translating the HaRT Mindset & Heartset into Practice

Compass Health is partnering with HaRT3S to provide three training sessions about the importance of harm reduction treatment for substance use and radical and social justice in harm reduction.

Through Hart Training series, providers will learn a set of pragmatic and compassionate strategies that aim to reduce substance-related harm and improve quality of life for people who use substances and their communities – without requiring abstinence or use reduction. In this training series, attendees will learn how to apply harm reduction in the individual psychotherapeutic context using an efficacious and client driven approach in which therapists engage a harm-reduction mindset, heart-set and concrete therapeutic components.

Participants will:

1. Describe harm reduction and harm-reduction treatment.

2. Evaluate the evidence base for harm-reduction approaches.

3. Apply harm-reduction principles of compassion and pragmatism that is non contingent on abstinence or use reduction in clinical practice.

About the presenter: Susan E. Collins, PhD (she/her): Dr. Susan Collins brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to her role as President and co-founder of HaRT3S. As a licensed clinical psychologist in Washington state, she’s dedicated her 25-year career to revolutionizing how we think about and treat substance.

Continuing Education Credits: This course provides 4 hours of continuing education (CE) credits by the following boards: American Psychological Association (APA) National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

Clock Hours: This course is approved for 4 OSPI clock hours.

Class Details

  • As the class begins promptly, please arrive ten minutes early. Those who arrive late may be asked to leave without credit.
  • Those who stay to the end of class and complete an evaluation may receive a ceus or clock hours. Certificates will not be issued to those leaving early.
  • After registration is received, an Outlook Invitation with details will be sent. Accept the invitation and we will know you are coming. If you do not receive an Outlook Invitation in three to five days, please contact us. We do not allow drop-ins.
  • Please contact the LTD@compassh.org at least ten days prior to the training if you require special accommodations.
  • Cancellations must be emailed and received no later than seven days prior to the event. If we cancel the training, registrants will be offered the next available class.
